Recently, NASA has been having some trouble with the Voyager 2 spacecraft, which was launched in 1977 with a message to aliens telling them about us here on Earth. Anyway, recently there have been garbled messages coming back from the craft, which NASA could not explain. So of course, one UFO nut goes and ruins it all for the rest of us with some outrageous assumptions and conclusion jumping to. Yeah. IO9.com has the sory:
Communications troubles with space probe Voyager 2 – a vessel containing “we are here” messages for aliens – inspired speculation that ET had commandeered the vessel. But NASA calls it a technical glitch. Today is the moment of truth.
The furor began last month when the probe, which sends back regular updates to Earth, began spurting nonsense data that seemed to contain some kind of pattern. Was it an alien message? NASA engineers suspected a failure in the flight data system, but a German “alien expert” claimed otherwise. Hautwig Hausdorf told German newspaper Bild:
“It seems almost as if someone has reprogrammed or hijacked the probe – thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth.”
There is a very good reason as to why ufology is not taken as seriously as it perhaps should be. For every serious researcher, there are a handful of conspiracy theorists and wackos who automatically label anything that is (for the moment) unexplained as paranormal, or due to alien interference. The probe was sending back gibberish. The probe was launched in 1977. Think about how far we’ve come technologically. PCs still crash for no apparent reason, here in 2010. Maybe this was just a system failure? Maybe the cosmic radiation is affecting the probe’s electronics? Basically, there are many simpler and more rational explanations to consider before one jumps to “aliens reprogrammed our probe.”
